About Old Dog New Tricks
The name Old Dog New Tricks is not meant to imply that I
feel like an old dog. Rather, it reflects my undying
belief that if they choose to, people can change and
learn new tricks.
I have played guitar since I was about six. I learned
many folk and pop songs and would accompany myself with
the guitar. I started thinking of the guitar more as a
lead instrument when I was about 14 years old and
developed a taste for progressive rock, fusion and jazz.
Old Dog New Tricks is a collection of instrumental songs
that I have written over the years. It is long overdue.
The new trick for me is actually doing the project. For
years I did not record things as I was looking for the
perfect tone, the perfect solo, the perfect recording. I
have finally learned that perfection, in all things, is
unattainable. However, to be creative and share ones
gift is most excellent!
I am blessed to have a loving family and so many
supportive friends. This project is as much for them as
it is for me. As I worked on this project, I received
support from so many of them. Cziana, Dale, Glenn,
Gujjuu, Hock, Jim, Joy, Karen, Lori, Michael, Naz, Shelley,
Sheila, Phil … thank you all so much for your
encouragements and inspiration.
I really want to give Bruce Davies a lot of thanks for
his help, his great chops, but most of all, for his
friendship and support. He is so much fun to work with.
A huge thank you to my good friend Eric Brad at Northern
Lodge Music for his masterful job of engineering,
re-mixing and mastering of Old Dog New Tricks.
To Lis Bailly for lending us her time and talents to
produce the wonderful cover art and design for this CD.
To my mom and
dad, my sisters and my children, thank you for your
constant love
and support.
I especially want to thank my
wonderful wife Colleen. You put up with my tantrums when
things go sideways, you always support and encourage
my desire to play, give me all the space I need to do
so, and you believe in me when I often do not believe
in myself. This CD is dedicated to you.
